The Overgrown Path

Kiev 60 Arsat 45mm f3.5 Fujifilm Reala 100 Arista C41 Kit

This is the opposite view from my post The Barred Path, in hindsight the two taken as a single work invoke a sense of having no clear options. One can remain outside the gates, or turn and walk into an uncertain future.

The two present together

The James Through the Trees

Kiev 60 Arsat 80mm f2.8 Fujifilm Reala 100 Arista C-41 Kit

A peek at the James River passing through Lynchburg, Virginia through the dense foliage on its banks. I returned to my Kiev 60's to shoot my last two rolls of Fujifilm Reala and despite their quirks, I still love them as field shooters.

An Unexplained Madness....

FujiFilm GA645Zi FujiFilm NPH 400 Pro Arista C41 Processing Kit

Someone made use of a broken plastic chair to jot down a profound thought. Captured as found the full text is;

"An unexplained madness in a trembling mortal form,
Here to bring a thundering God to his knees."
-Anonymous

It is a shame a cannot properly credit the author, but he or she did not sign their work.

Desert Boulders

Fujifilm GA645Zi Fujifilm Reala 100 Arista C-41 Processing Kit

Another image from the roll of Fujifilm Reala that sat in my GA645Zi for nearly two years. I am sure my fellow analog photographers feel there are two sins in the sentence previous,
  1. I left a perfectly good roll of film in a camera for nearly two years
  2. I did not use my Fujifilm GA645Zi for nearly two years.
Either one is bad enough on its own, but combine the two and I really need to do some penance to the Analog Gods.

Anyway, it is a nice image of the boulders in the Sonoran Desert outside of Phoenix Arizona.

Majestic....

Fujifilm GA645Zi Fujifilm Reala 100 Arista C-41 Processing Kit - So many tones and textures. I have always loved Fujifilm's Reala and the is one of my few remaining rolls. The GA645Zi makes shooting medium format a guilty pleasure.

Torture

Kiev 60 Arsat 80mm f2.8 Kodak Tri-X Professional Adox Adonal 1:50 - Politics aside, this taggers placement of this work is perfect. Stenciled onto a buildings cracking foundation, the positioning only reinforces the message of the work. I chose a slightly over exposed negative for this post as it heightened the already high contrast of the Tri-X and Adonal combination.

Bricks, Grass and Tags

Kiev 60 Arsat 80mm f2.8 Kodak Tri-X Professional Adox Adonal 1:50 - Another study in texture and tones, a common thread in my current work. There are so many things going on here, the uneven tones of the brick, the contrast of brick and mortar, the pattern of the masonry and the randomness of the grass. These elements appeal to me, even when view the scene in color, my mind translates it to grey.

Pallet

Kiev 60 Arsat 80mm f2.8 Kodak Tri-X Professional Adox Adonal 1:50 - The overlapping, smeared appearance of this door reminded me of an Oil Painter's pallet. Layer upon layer of tone and textured blended with care and purpose, but giving no hint of the actual work in progress.

Back Alley

Kiev 60 Arsat 45mm f3.5 Kodak Tri-X Professional Adox Adonal 1:50 - An interesting scene discovered while scouting a hidden alcove off Church St. in downtown Lynchburg VA.. Shot as found, if you look closely you can see "downtown" written on the laundry cart.

Private Parking Spectre no. 1

Kiev 60 Arsat 80mm f2.8 Kodak Tri-X Pro Adox Adonal 1:50 - Well it has been almost 14 months since my last port, sometimes life gets in the way, but this is the start of what I hope will be my return to regular posting. I have been eyeing this piece of graffiti  for some time. I drive past it every time I drive through downtown Lynchburg and for the past six months have wanted to capture. The contrast and grain of Kodak's Tri-X Professional developed in Adox's Adonal (Rodinal) is the perfect combination for the somewhat eery work.

Vanishing Point

Kiev 60 Arsat 150mm f2.8 Fujifilm Neopan Acros 100 Caffenol-C-M plus Salt - An eery trip into light and shadow, this track trails off into oblivion. The late afternoon sun casting shadows made this shot for me.

Around the Bend

Kiev 60 Arsat 150mm f2.8 Fujifilm Neopan Acros 100 Caffenol-C-M plus Salt - This is the kind of building I always dreamed of having a studio in, old, urban and big. I love the way the tracks bend around the rear of this structures.

Ivy Guardian

Kiev 60 Arsat 80mm f2.8 Fujifilm Neopan Acros 100 Caffenol-C-M plus Salt - Two columns of Ivy stand guard over this door, with crossed arms barring entrance.

Caffenol always seems to bring a vintage looking tonal range, great for subjects like this.

Virginia Creeper

Kiev 60 Arsat 80mm f2.8 Fujifilm Acros 100 Adox Adonal 1:50 - A swarm of Virginia Creeper vines are slowly consuming this building, like a dark spirit in a horror movie.

An Awwwwww Moment...

Kiev 60 Arsat 80mm f2.8 Foma Fomapan 400 Adox Adonal 1:25 - Three of the neighborhood feral cats using a lawn chair to escape the mid day sun. One adult and two kittens showing the softer side of cat life.

Hen of Chicks...

Kiev 60 Arsat 80mm f2.8 40mm extension tube Foma Fomapan 400 Adox Adonal 1:25 - A just watered Hen an Chicks plant basking in the mid-day sun. My first experience using Adox Adonal (Rodinal) at 1:25 dilution. Sharpness is great and grain is better than expected. I love the magnifying effect of the water droplets.

Kajin Tora....

Fujifilm GA645Zi Fujinon 55-90 f4.5/6.9 Fujifilm Acros 100 Arista 76 1:1 - One of the first shots from my GZ645Zi, our cat Kajin Tora was striking a great pose so I could not pass her up. She has stunning eyes and a killer instinct.

The Infamous Texas Inn

Fujifilm GA645Zi Fujinon 55-90 f4.5/6.9 Fujifilm Acros 100 Arista 76 1:1 - A Lynchburg land mark for more years then must people remember, the "T-Room" as it is known, specializes in Chili and Hamburgers and serves up some of the best hang over food in town. Their trademark burger is the Cheesy Western, a cheese burger with Chili topped with a fried egg. The decor is classic 1950's lunch counter, with a sprinkling of greasy spoon, but do not let the rough edges keep you away. The Texas in a classic American Burger joint in the best sense of the genre.

Watch that first step!

Fujifilm GA645Zi Fujinon 55-90 f4.5/6.9 Fujifilm Acros 100 Arista 76 1:1 - A door to nowhere, this one adorns the side of the Academy of Music in downtown Lynchburg VA.. Now a part of Lynchburg Academy of Fine Arts the old theatre has been under active restorations for several years.

GMC

Fujifilm GA645Zi Fujinon 55-90 f4.5/6.9 Fujifilm Acros 100 Arista 76 1:1 - An example of why the GA645Zi is my new love. The Fujinon zoom lens, if a bit slow, is absolutely stunning. The sharpness and contrast jumped off the negatives even before I scanned them. There are many reason I still shoot film, habit, nostalgia, the process, the smell of fixer and images like this.
