I have toyed with the Fujifilm FP-100c negative reclamation process many times, usually with disappointing results, but sometimes I get an interesting outcome. This is one of those times. For me, it is the imperfections of the process that make it attractive. The resulting negatives are very thin and low contrast, at least in my experience, and scanning them is a challenge. The results have a pastel quality giving an ethereal feel or maybe my kalopsia is showing.

Speed Graphic Graflex Optar 135 f4.7 FujiFilm FP-100c

I love instant film, especially the old pull and peel type which, unfortunately, appears to be a dying format. I will miss being able to load a pack of Fujifilm's FP-100c into my Polaroid 405 back and turning my Speed Graphic into a massive instant camera. There is just something about the soft contrast of this type of instant film that makes it unique.

Instax Evil Dead

Lomo-Instant Camera with Close-Up lens Fujifilm Instax Mini Film - Inspired by last night's viewing of the original version of "The Evil Dead" and a general lack of any in my other project coming to fruition any time soon, I thought I would play with some Instax close-ups. When Instax film is extremely over exposed it actual begins to product a negative effect as you can see on the top of the skull. This adds and eery touch to this image.

Polaroid Macro 5 SLA 1200 Impossible Spectra Black and White Instant Film - Inspired by my Instant Faces post, I decided to do a series of images on artificial faces using Impossible Project's Black and White instant film and my Polaroid Macro 5 1200 instant camera. This is the fifth and final image in a series of capturing faces on various toys and objects around the house, "found" beauty so to speak. This tough bunny has seen better days, but stall has a well worn cuteness.

The Polaroid Macro 5 SLR 1200

Meet the Polaroid Macro 5 SLR 1200. Definitely one of the odder cameras in my shooting arsenal, this Polaroid Spectra film shooting instant behemoth is a cool niche camera designed for medical and technical photography. The camera has two built in flashes either side of the lens for even illumination and can focus down to .07" or 1.7mm via a turret system if five lenses.

As the name implies the camera is a true SLR (Single Lens Reflex) and framing through the view finder is very accurate. Focus is achieved both visually and by a system of matching light dots projected onto the subject by the camera, when the dots line up, the subject is in focus.

Polaroid Macro 5 SLR Impossible Project Instant Color Print Film for Spectra Cameras - Just some more instant film fun, the Macro 5 SLR has incredible macro abilities and the twin built in flashes give great even illumination. The color rendition of the Impossible Project film is always interesting, even if hard to predict at times, but then again this has always been true of integral type instant films.

I love instant film and the Impossible Project has made it possible to dig the Polaroid, SX-70, 600 and Spectre Instant cameras out of your closet and use them again. All the Lo-Fi, pastel instant colors you remember are available again.

Speed Graphic Grafex Optar 135 f4.7 FujiFilm FP-100c - Autumn is my favorite season, the crisp cool air, the color and the world just seems to smell cleaner... Shooting up through the changing leaves of a mammoth Black Walnut Tree, a single cloud floating by in the clear blue sky. Perfect.

Speed Graphic Grafex Optar 135 f4.7 FujiFilm FP-100c - The mid-day sun pouring into my living room on a cool Autumn day. The Speed Graphic makes a great instant camera using the Polaroid 405 instant back. Framing can be challenging using the 4x5 format optical viewfinder of the Speed Graphic due to the 3x4 format of the pack film used in the 405 back. Someday I need to spend some time making a mask for the viewfinder more accurate.

Impossible - Instant Cats

Polaroid JobPro Instant Camera Impossible Project Color Shade UV+ Film - A couple more images from my first pack of Impossible Project Color Shade UV+ instant film.

The Cat on the left is Kuron Neko, this sly little kitten managed to work her way into our home by hanging herself by a rear paw in our hedges. Her weak cries and injured foot played in our sympathies and earned her indoor status. After limping around for a few days to insure her permanent indoor status, the paw magically healed. Mission Accomplished.

The Cat on the right is Greymon, son of Bob. He is the current dominate male of the neighborhood's ferrel clan. They keep the mole and snake population under control and like to leave the kills on the front porch in exchange for food...

Impossible - Instant Spring

Polaroid JobPro Instant Camera Impossible Project Color Shade UV+ Film - Spring is here and with it comes color. A good time to break out the new Impossible Project Color Shade UV+ Instant Film and fire away.... Actually, I have had this pack since Autumn, but am just now getting around to finishing the pack. Like most Polaroid 600 Series camera, the JobPro is as basic as it gets. Fixed shutter speed, the built in flash fires whether it is needed on not and the only exposure control is the lighter/darker slider on the front of the camera. The JobPro does have a built in Close-Up Lens that allows for close-up shots between 2 to 4 ft. (0.6 to 1.2m), but correcting for parallax error with a marginally accurate viewfinder can make framing a challenge. Ah the joys of instant photography Polaroid style. Still, somehow, the results are worth it.

Instant Film - Demon Sheep

Polaroid JobPro Instant Camera Impossible Project Color Shade UV+ Film - Finally got through my first pack of Impossible Project Color Shade UV+ and am ready to start posting the results... This is my first shot. The "Demon Sheep" was a garage sale find and the creepiest stuffed animal I have run across in while. Its red eyes are leering out of a dog cage in this shot, and a cage is exactly where this thing belongs.

The Impossible Project Color Shade UV+ is everything you would expect from and integral type instant film. Muted, almost pastel colors, low contrast and slightly "unsharp," all combining to bring back the beloved Polaroid Film look of the late 20th century. The is the real "instagram."
