The Suits no. 1

Kiev 60 Arsat 80mm f2.8 Kodak Tri-X Professional Adox Adonal 1:50 - I like the ominous feel of this tag, anonymous headless men is black suits lurking everywhere. The industrial element added by the location chosen just enhances its stark nature.

Private Parking Spectre no. 1

Kiev 60 Arsat 80mm f2.8 Kodak Tri-X Pro Adox Adonal 1:50 - Well it has been almost 14 months since my last port, sometimes life gets in the way, but this is the start of what I hope will be my return to regular posting. I have been eyeing this piece of graffiti  for some time. I drive past it every time I drive through downtown Lynchburg and for the past six months have wanted to capture. The contrast and grain of Kodak's Tri-X Professional developed in Adox's Adonal (Rodinal) is the perfect combination for the somewhat eery work.

Textures and Tones

Kiev 60 Arsat 80mm f2.8 Fujifilm Neopan Acros 100 Adox Adonal 1:50 - An interesting mix of textures and tones combine in this image. Nature and Graffiti Artists seem to be battling to see who can cover this building first.

Every Car is out to Kill You

Kiev 60 Arsat 80mm f2.8 Fujifilm Acros 100 Adox Adonal 1:50 - Apparently I did not get the memo on the Car conspiracy, but now I have been warned.

Door No. 3

Kiev 60 Arsat 80mm f2.8 Fujifilm Acros 100 Adox Adonal 1:50 - The Lower Basin in downtown Lynchburg Virginia provides almost no end of great subjects. This is the loading door of an old warehouse building. I love the way brick and weathered wood renders in black and white.

Virginia Creeper

Kiev 60 Arsat 80mm f2.8 Fujifilm Acros 100 Adox Adonal 1:50 - A swarm of Virginia Creeper vines are slowly consuming this building, like a dark spirit in a horror movie.

Virtue....

Kiev 60 Arsat 150mm f2.8 40mm extension tube Ilford SFX 200 Adonol 1:50 - A studio shot using two Novatron 2 stop heads both set to -2 shooting through white umbrellas for even light. The 40mm extension tube on an Arsat 150mm f2.8 helped maintain the narrow depth of field, even at f11. This was my first roll of Ilford SFX 200 and I was curious on how its extended red sensitivity would render flesh, I am pleased with the result.

An Odd Growth

Nikon FE2 Nikkor 35-105mm f3.5/4.5 ORWO UN54 Adox Adonal 1:50 - An abstract of sorts, this one is all about textures and lines for me. I love the way UN54 rendered the tones.

Vintage Sign - AAA Auto Club of Virginia

Nikon FE2 Nikkor 50mm f1.4 ORWO UN54 Adox Adonal 1:50 - Found on the corner of Main St. and 13th St. in downtown Lynchburg VA, this sign hangs in the window of the restored Hill Buggy & Wagon Co. Building. Downtown Lynchburg is a great place to just walk and see what images present themselves. ORWO UN54 is an ISO 100 Speed movie film, manufactured in Wolfen Germany. UN54 has similar characteristics to Kodak Plus-X and develops well in Adox Adonal (Rodinal).

Doll Face Exposure no. 11

Kiev 60 Arsat 80mm f2.8 40mm ext, tube Ilford FP4+ Adonol 1:50 - My first roll of Ilford FP4 Plus,,, ever. I have never shot a lot of Ilford film, besides the a few rolls of HP5, XP1 and XP2, if for now other reason than I was happy with what I was already using. I know several photographers who shoot Ilford exclusively and swear by it, but for me Fujifilm's and Kodak's offerings were getting the job done. I felt it was time to give Ilford a series try. First up FP4 Plus; shot in the studio and developed with Adox Adonol at 1:50, a Rodinal equivalent, this film has nice even tones and somewhat muted contrast. It does an excellent job rendering the subtle tones of this hand painted doll. Grain is what I would expect from anything developed in Rodinal and detail is outstanding. I have more rolls to shot and look forward to seeing how Ilford's Delta films perform.

Liquidambar Styraciflua Fruit

Kiev 60 Arsat 80mm f2.8 20mm extension tube K2 Yellow Filter Efke 25R Adox Adonal 1:50 - My wife brought these home, feeling they would make and interesting subject. Having grown up in Illinois, she has never been exposed the dreaded, foot torturing "Gumballs" of Southeastern United States. They are the fruit of the Liquidambar Styraciflua Tree, better know as the American Sweetgum, and are the Bane of bare feet everywhere in Virginia. "Gumballs" ares slightly smaller than a Golf or Ping Pong Ball and covered with spiked, bird beak like openings. They are sharp, skin piercing sharp. The tender arch area of the bottom of your foot always seems to find them hiding in grass, bringing a sensation similar to stepping on a cluster of upturned needles. I grew up hating these things, but in the end, my wife was right, they did make and interesting subject. Scanned with an Epson V500 Flatbed Scanner.

First "Beauty" Shot

Beauty Lite III Biokor-S 45mm f1.9 FujiFilm Neopan SS 100 Adox Adonal 1:50 - The first frame from the first roll with my Christmas gift Beauty Lite III 35mm rangefinder. The Biokor-S 45mm f1.9 lens is crisp and contrasty and there is little to no light fall off at the corners. This was shot against and overcast sky so any fall off would be obvious. More on the Beauty Lite III can be found in my previous post.

School is in Session exposure no. 9

Kiev 60 Arsat 250mm f3.5 Kodak Tri-X 400 Professional Adox Adonal 1:50 - Bob's son Greymon schools the slightly younger Felix in the art of feline combat, while a unnamed Kitten Doe looks on. Felix is the great grand son of Hitler, but despite that relation, Hitler seems to have anointed Greymon dominate male status. The "Kitten Doe" is Bob's from her 2nd litter of the year. The clan's size seems to fluctuate between 6 to 10 cats. Some kittens, once old enough, are run off by the older cats to starts adjacent clans, others, unfortunately, will not survive the winter.

BB spawn of Bob exposure no. 4

Kiev 60 Arsat 250mm f3.5 Kodak Tri-X 400 Professional Adox Adonal 1:50 - Bob's leap year daughter BB carefully watches me from behind Hitler's great grand daughter Fluffy. BB has the looks of her mother, with her markings in tan, black and grey, while Fluffy has the Black and White "Orca Felinitis" makings of her great grand mother. BB was born and leap year, so not only does she have 9 lives, but she only ages 1 year for every four that pass.

Another example of why Tri-X has been around so long.
