Impossible Faces no. 5 (Tough Bunny)

Polaroid Macro 5 SLA 1200 Impossible Spectra Black and White Instant Film - Inspired by my Instant Faces post, I decided to do a series of images on artificial faces using Impossible Project's Black and White instant film and my Polaroid Macro 5 1200 instant camera. This is the fifth and final image in a series of capturing faces on various toys and objects around the house, "found" beauty so to speak. This tough bunny has seen better days, but stall has a well worn cuteness.

The Polaroid Macro 5 SLR 1200

Meet the Polaroid Macro 5 SLR 1200. Definitely one of the odder cameras in my shooting arsenal, this Polaroid Spectra film shooting instant behemoth is a cool niche camera designed for medical and technical photography. The camera has two built in flashes either side of the lens for even illumination and can focus down to .07" or 1.7mm via a turret system if five lenses.

As the name implies the camera is a true SLR (Single Lens Reflex) and framing through the view finder is very accurate. Focus is achieved both visually and by a system of matching light dots projected onto the subject by the camera, when the dots line up, the subject is in focus.

Polaroid Macro 5 SLR Impossible Project Instant Color Print Film for Spectra Cameras - Just some more instant film fun, the Macro 5 SLR has incredible macro abilities and the twin built in flashes give great even illumination. The color rendition of the Impossible Project film is always interesting, even if hard to predict at times, but then again this has always been true of integral type instant films.

Polaroid Macro 5 SLR Impossible Project Color Instant Print Film - A couple of shots for the Impossible Moment in Time Flickr group. I love instant film and the Impossible Project has made it possible to dig the Polaroid, SX-70, 600 and Spectre Instant cameras out of your closet and use them again. All the Lo-Fi, pastel instant colors you remember are available again.

I love instant film, as it is the true essence of capturing a moment. Unedited, unfiltered and unmanipulated, it is light captured in media. For some, it is a starting point, but with this series the raw image is what is presented, all flaws intact.

Instant Kiev 60

Polaroid Macro 5 SLR Very Expired Polaroid Spectra Image Instant Film - A composite image of my favorite camera at the moment. The Ukrainian Kiev 60 Medium Format SLR. Very similar in concept to the Pentax 6x7, the 6x6 Kiev function almost identically to a standard 35mm SLR camera. Think of it as a K1000 on steroids.

I thought these 2 images had a "Mug Shot" feel, so I present "The Unusual Suspects."

Three Lucky Finds

Polaroid Macro 5 SLR Polaroid Spectra Image Film Expired 11/05 - The results of 3 lucky finds.
One: A Polaroid Macro 5 on ebay for next to nothing. I will post on the camera later, but in a nutshell the Macro 5 is a SLR Camera designed specifically for close-up work.
Two: The local camera store, Lynchburg Camera had several packs of expired Spectra Image Film they were willing to part with cheap. After testing one pack to verify the batteries were still good, I could not pass these rare lomo gems up.

Three: Kuroneko, the Kitten of one of the feral cats that rule our neighborhood. Kuroneko wormed her way into the house by managing to hang herself by a rear leg from a fork on a branch in a bush. When my wife found her, Kuroneko had been hanging for several hours and was very weak. The leg from which she was hanging, was injured and appeared to be paralyzed. After a trip to the Vet and several weeks of pampering and rehab, the leg is now fine and and Kuroneko has achieved House resident status.

I am convinced the leg injury was a trick to gain House resident status before winter. Kuroneko has filled the opening left by the passing of our oldest feline resident, Amber, at 14 years old. She has been accepted by our German Shepherds and terrorizes the older cats in the house, like every good kitten should. And as she curls up on a warm bed and licks her once injured leg, I swear I hear her purr, "Mission Accomplished."
